Privacy policy

How we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you shop with Zari.

Effective Date: May 20, 2025

At Zari, we treat your personal information the way we'd treat a gift you've given us - with care, with respect, and only ever for the purpose you intended.

This policy explains what information we collect when you use Zari, why we collect it, how we keep it safe, and the choices you have about how it's used. We've written it to be readable, but if anything is unclear, you can reach us at admin@zari.ng.

This policy is governed by the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation 2019 (NDPR) and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA). Zari Gifts Limited is the data controller responsible for your personal data.

Personal information we collect and how we collect it

We collect information you give us directly, information generated as you use the Website, and limited information from trusted third parties.

  • Account information - your name, email address, phone number, and password when you create an account.
  • Order information - billing and delivery addresses, items purchased, and order history.
  • Gifting and personalisation details - recipient names and addresses, gift messages, and any preferences you share so we can build the right box.
  • Payment information - our payment processor (Paystack) handles your card details directly; we never store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Device and usage information - IP address, browser type, and how you interact with the Website, collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies.

We may also receive information from third-party services that help us run the Website, such as Google Analytics. You can learn about Google's practices at google.com/policies/privacy/partners, and opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

How we use your personal information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process and fulfil your orders, including arranging delivery with our courier partners.
  • Create and personalise the gift messages, cards, and packaging you request.
  • Manage your account and respond to your enquiries.
  • Send order updates, receipts, and - where you've opted in - news about new collections and offers.
  • Detect and prevent fraud, and keep the Website secure.
  • Understand how the Website is used, so we can improve it.

We do not use your information for any purpose beyond what's described in this policy without first asking you.

How we share your personal information

We do not sell your personal information. We only share it where necessary to run Zari:

  • Delivery partners, such as GIG, DHL, and FedEx, to get your gift to its recipient.
  • Payment processors, such as Paystack, to securely process payment.
  • Service providers who support our operations, such as hosting and analytics providers, under confidentiality obligations.
  • Regulators or law enforcement, where required by Nigerian law.
  • A successor entity, if Zari is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

Cookies and tracking technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember items in your cart, and understand how the Website is used. You can manage or disable cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the Website may not work as well if you do.

Data retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. When it's no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

Under the NDPR and NDPA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Request deletion of your information, subject to legal obligations.
  • Object to, or request that we restrict, certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it.
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at admin@zari.ng and we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe.

Data security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to keep your information as safe as a wrapped gift.

Children's privacy

Zari is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

International data transfers

If you order a gift for delivery outside Nigeria, the necessary recipient and delivery details may be shared with international courier partners in the destination country. We take reasonable steps to ensure this information remains protected wherever it's processed.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as our services or legal obligations change. We'll post the revised version here with a new effective date, and where changes are significant, we'll let you know directly.
